While the museum is closed due to the coronavirus, city residents and anyone interested in architecture can go outside and explore the city's architectural sites. As part of the Kankaanpää City Museum's VIIVA exhibition, an architectural map of Kankaanpää's modern architecture will be published.
– We wanted to expand the accessibility of our architecture exhibition and at the same time offer an easy way to explore interesting sites around the city, says the director of the city museum Kati Vainio. – Touring architectural sites in a beautiful urban environment is a great activity for the whole family all year round.
The map is available on the city museum's website: www.kangaanpaa.fi/museum. In addition, the map is available in print at the Kankaanpää Galleria and at Kahvila Postelli. Once the city's offices have reopened, the map will also be available there.
The Viiva exhibition will continue until spring 2022
It was decided to extend the exhibition of the planned modern architecture Kankaanpää exhibition, VIVA, and the exhibition will be on display at the Kankaanpää City Museum until April 24.4.2022, XNUMX. – Due to the corona situation, the museum has been closed to the public for long periods during the past autumn and winter season, says museum director Vainio. – It felt natural to continue the exhibition so that everyone interested can get to know it in a variety of ways.
“VIIVA – Kankaanpää of planned, modern architecture” presents the story of the city's modern architecture from the 1930s to the present day. Several notable architects have left their mark on the cityscape, starting with Kaija and Heikki Siren and Olli Kivinen.
The LINE exhibition presents buildings, master plans, also unrealized visions and tells about designers. As its name suggests, the main part of the exhibition is the line and the shape created from it, which is built through the collaboration of a trained designer and a wide range of professionals.
The city of Kankaanpää was awarded the SAFA award 20 years ago for “long-term and exemplary action for an aesthetically high-quality and sustainable environment.” The VIIVA exhibition encourages observation of our living environment, seeing the features of different decades of modern architecture, and reflecting on the quality and future of our designed environment – the post-corona era.
The whole of the VIIVA exhibition was created as a collaboration between the museum and experts. Significant expertise was brought to the exhibition by Kankaanpää's long-time city architect, Doctor of Technology Maija Anttila.
The museum is closed to the public due to the corona situation until 5.3.2021 March 12 and as soon as possible, exhibition activities will continue according to winter opening hours, i.e. Sat-Sun 16-9 and for groups by separate agreement.
