The GEO Learning Center, established in the former school building of the co-educational upper secondary school in Honkajoki, Kankaanpää, will host an open house on Sunday, November 26th from 12 to 15 p.m.

During the open house, anyone interested in the topic will have the opportunity to explore the renovated learning center premises and hear what is still to come. So it is not ready, but the work has progressed at a good pace, and various contents can already be seen and experienced.

-For example, various virtual environmental education content is already ready. While exploring the facilities, you can take a virtual dip in the stream to watch the brown trout or fly to visit a beehive. The animal collection is also quite comprehensive, describes the biology and geography lecturer at Honkajoki Upper Secondary School Kalle Männisto.

According to Männistö, the GEO learning center will be in test use by schoolchildren from the city of Kankaanpää and teachers from the Lauhanvuori – Hämeenkangas UNESCO Global Geopark area for the current academic year, i.e. until next spring. Next summer, the center will be open to all visitors.

Simultaneously with the open doors, the adjacent multi-purpose hall in Honkala will have HonkajokiChristmas markets organized by the committee, which also sell spices made from dried herbs from the Ecosystem Service Products brand, produced by students who have completed environmental education studies, and honey from the school's own beehive.

The exhibition, study and research spaces of the GEO Learning Center have been renovated Honkajoki-committee. The aim of the project, which will end at the end of this year, is to establish the position of environmental education in the area's schools and to provide an activating and innovative learning environment. The learning center also serves tourists in the Geopark area. The project will create new opportunities, for example, for offering camp schools or event days.
