A collaboration between Kankaanpää Yhteislyseo and SAMK Kankaanpää Art School has resulted in three large works of art created by 14 high school students for the high school premises. The artistic collaboration is a continuation of last spring's Purkutalo art project.
Site-specific art
In the autumn, once a week, high school students gathered at the Art School and painted three works of art, each about two metres wide and one and a half metres high, under the guidance of the workshop leaders. The starting point for the work was the high school architect's vision of a ship-like building, from which the students sought inspiration for their works. The workshop, designed by the University of Applied Sciences students Anna Kallio and Annika Närhe, included teaching on, among other things, colour theory and site-specific art, and encouraged the students to work independently and manage their time. The result was three paintings that symbolically depict their high school days, which show both the influence of the location of the works and the students' own handiwork.
From the academic year before the continuation
The collaboration between the upper secondary school and the Art School was also admired last spring, when five upper secondary school students painted murals during the team weeks in the Purkutalo art project. In addition to Kankaanpää Yhteislyseo, students from Honkajoki upper secondary school were also involved. After the workshop planned by Anna Kallio and Pinja Sietiö and led by Annika Närhe, the upper secondary school expressed a wish for similar collaboration in the autumn, and so a new painting workshop was planned. Familiar faces from the spring participated, and by autumn, the upper secondary school students have already expressed a wish for a new mural painting workshop to be held.
The paintings from the workshop have been hung on the upper floor of the high school; one in the stairwell and two on either side of the door to the students' living room. A public unveiling ceremony will be held next to the works on Wednesday, January 25.1th at 17.30:XNUMX PM.
