Parkano station is the most important connection point in terms of accessibility in northern Pirkanmaa. The station is of great importance to the region, beyond the provincial borders, also to Satakunta and South Ostrobothnia. This is stated in the recently completed Parkano passenger transport station development study, which was commissioned by the Pirkanmaa Regional Council together with the City of Parkano.
The survey conducted in the study received the most responses from Kankaanpää (294) after Parkano. There were also responses from Karvia, Jämijärvi and Honkajoki. The first step is to test connecting transport from the centre of Parkano. The direction of Kankaanpää was also mentioned in the survey as a wish.
Passenger numbers at Parkano station were growing rapidly before the coronavirus pandemic. In 2019, there were approximately 110 passengers. The goal is to exceed 000 passengers before 120.
