As the Mayor of Kankaanpää, I was saddened by the news that was in the Kankaanpää Region on Thursday, November 1st (Claim: Kankaanpää is led by fear). I express my apologies to those who have experienced mistreatment in their work in the City of Kankaanpää.
The allegations made require immediate and in-depth intervention in the matter. On Friday, November 2, I called together the chief shop stewards and the occupational safety and health division, i.e. the occupational safety delegates and the occupational safety manager. At this meeting, the matter was discussed based on the information that had come to light and future measures were agreed upon. After the meeting, the city secretary informed the city staff about the matter.
The topic was also discussed with elected officials at the Kankaanpää City Council meeting on Monday, November 5. The City Council held a diverse discussion on the topic and emphasized the importance of employee well-being for the entire organization. As a large work community, the city must also be an example to others and produce well-being on a wide scale. Effective, open and interactive communication is extremely important throughout the city organization. The City Council gives its full support to the city administration and human resources management.
The promotion of well-being at work in the city's organization is continuous and systematic. It is done in cooperation with the entire personnel. Our work community does not tolerate any kind of bullying or inequality, and any issues that may arise are addressed immediately. The goal is to create an open and positive atmosphere in which individuals can naturally bring up the shortcomings they have experienced and address them at an early stage. Discrimination or other inappropriate behavior is under no circumstances accepted in the organizational culture of the City of Kankaanpää.
The City of Kankaanpää is very proud of its skilled personnel and is committed to ensuring everyone's well-being at work. Despite the public handling of the matter, I wish each of our employees peace at work.
