The regional council of the Satakunta welfare area, elected in the regional elections, will be responsible for organizing social and health services and rescue services throughout Satakunta in the future. From the beginning of 2023, responsibility for organizing social and health care and rescue services will be transferred from municipalities and joint municipal authorities to welfare areas. How the reform will affect the lives of Kankaanpää residents will largely depend on the composition of the regional council. Although municipalities are no longer responsible for organizing social and health services, they still play a significant role in promoting the well-being of their residents. The Act on the Organization of Social and Health Care stipulates that municipalities must: promote the well-being and health of its residents and that municipalities have primary responsibility for promoting well-being and health to the extent that this task is linked to the municipality's other statutory tasksThis also requires close cooperation between decision-makers in the welfare area and municipalities.
