The City of Kankaanpää conducted a workplace well-being survey in December, measuring the workplace well-being of employees, the work community and the organization. The survey was conducted in cooperation with the municipal pension insurer Keva. 310 employees responded to the survey, and the response rate was approximately 63.
– The survey provides important information about the situation of well-being at work. The overall picture has remained at a good level, and in several areas we can see small positive developments, describes the city's Director of Administration and Human Resources Anna Vanhahonko.
The previous similar survey on well-being at work was also carried out at the turn of 2023–2024 using Keva's online tool, so the results are largely comparable. The results also include corresponding benchmark data from 91 other medium-sized municipalities.
Well-being at work was examined extensively
The well-being at work survey examined, among other things, the functioning of the work community, work tasks and resources, work-related feelings, supervisor work, the employer's activities, and the perception of the employer.
The results showed a slight increase, for example, in the following statements: “Everyone in my work unit knows their most important tasks and procedures”, “My work community provides orientation” and “My job offers me the opportunity for professional development”. There was a slight decrease, for example, in the statement “My work unit operates according to jointly agreed procedures”.
The survey shows that the city is a strong employer: 86,7% of respondents would recommend their current workplace to a friend. The corresponding figure for superiors is as high as 94,1%.
Time management as a development target for superiors
The city's supervisors are included in the results for the entire city, but a separate report was produced based on the supervisors' responses. This enables a closer examination of phenomena related to supervisor work, management practices, and supervisors' well-being at work, and supports the development of leadership and supervisor work.
–34 out of 36 supervisors responded to the survey, and based on the responses, the overall situation of well-being at work is good. However, time management in particular comes up as a development target in the responses. Only about half of supervisors feel that they have enough time to get their work done, Vanhahonko explains.
The effects of the austerity program as part of a survey
The survey included a new theme: the effects of the city's austerity program on well-being at work. The majority of respondents (52,8%) felt that the austerity program and the related measures had affected work tasks. 35,6% of respondents assessed the impact on well-being at work as negative.
–The feedback received through the survey helps us maintain the strengths of workplace well-being and together make practical improvements where they are most needed, emphasizes Vanhahonko.
