Participatory budgeting is an operating model in which local residents are given the opportunity to influence the choice of where budget appropriations are used.
The budget for participatory budgeting in Kankaanpää is 20.000 euros. The residents can plan and decide how the budget will be used. First, ideas are proposed and then voted on. The budget will be used to implement the 1–2 proposals that receive the most votes.
The target group for the proposals is not limited, so residents can freely come up with ideas. Proposals are submitted electronically with the participatory budgeting proposal form or a written proposal can be submitted to the Kankaanpää Library or Honkajoki Library.
All proposals will be reviewed and the Innovation Working Group will select the proposals to be voted on. Vote is available to all residents of the municipality who are at least 12 years old this year (born in 2013 or earlier).

Last year's results
Last year, the Innovation Working Group received 86 proposals, of which 22 were selected for the voting phase. The proposal to renovate a swimming area in Honkajoki received 385 votes and narrowly beat the proposal to establish a recreation area in the center of Kankaanpää (364 votes). The third most popular proposal was the proposal to provide additional funding for asphalting streets in the center (286 votes).
