Due to the coronavirus situation, the events included in the city's cultural spring have unfortunately had to be cancelled, but the art school's art week, which is organized as part of the cultural spring, will take place thanks to the wonderful innovation of the art students!
Art Week 2020 offers a new temporary art route to Kankaanpää, which has been implemented by first-year students of the Art School campus in collaboration with brick-and-mortar businesses, the city, and the parish.
17 students participated in the art project and the route includes over 20 new works. The students have also created the communication materials for the art project, from websites to map materials. The website can be found at: https://taideviikko2020.wordpress.com
The works can be found, for example, in the yard of the Kankaanpää Art School, in the windows of the dormitory at Jämintie 2 D, in the window of the Community Center, in the windows of the sports center, at the bus stop at Jämintie 10, and in the windows of the following companies: Kukka-Anttila, Taide ja keims Räikkälä, Satakirja, and Katjan Kenkä.
The works are mainly on display until May 29.5th.
Many actors in cooperation
Most of the works have been placed in the windows of the so-called old dormitory in the cultural quarter. The dormitory served well as a place for working on art. Local entrepreneurs, people responsible for the city's facilities and the parish positively received the art students' ideas for implementing the art route. It is a testament to a genuine art city.
The implementation of the Art Week 2020 project is an example of a learning environment that combines an authentic urban space and distance and online learning methods.
– Regarding Art Week 2020, there was initially uncertainty about how we could implement it in such an exceptional situation, but the students really took charge of the new situation and work was created at a good pace in the spring. The positive attitude of companies, city employees and various communities motivated the work throughout the spring, says the lecturer Tomi Kuusimäki SAMK Fine Arts in Kankaanpää.
– Yes, such an urban art project built in an authentic environment required an active approach and at the same time strengthened one's own work. I felt that even an art student has a lot to give at a time when there is the greatest demand for inventive solutions, renewal and joy, summarizes the first-year student Mira Piitulainen.
