Vatajankoski Oy and the City of Kankaanpää are participating in promoting the city's nighttime comfort by illuminating two works of art in Kankaanpää. The works of art are the Opera Snake located in Myllymäki, visible from Laviantie, and Memoria located at the Kankaanpää traffic junction. The Opera Snake's lighting has already been turned on for viewing, and the lights of Memoria will be turned on on 7.10.
The illuminated works increase the amenity of Kankaanpää and create a visually impressive environment even in the dark. The project was implemented in cooperation with the City of Kankaanpää, Vatajankoski Oy and the Kankaanpää Art Association. The lighting of the works was designed by VALOA design, an office specializing in light architecture and lighting design. Vatajankoski Oy was responsible for installing the lights.
Director of Vatajankoski construction Jarno Joensuu hopes that the company's investment in lighting the works will have a positive impact on the amenity of Kankaanpää.
– The illuminated Opera Snake has been admirable on dark evenings for a few weeks now. On October 7.10th, the lights illuminating the Memoria work will also be turned on. It is worth going outside to see the new lighting in the evening.
The Opera Snake and Memoria are part of the Kankaanpää Art Circle, which includes over a hundred different works of art around the city.
– We are really happy that art is appreciated and people want to invest in it. The works come to life in a completely new way with lighting, and the lighting itself adds to the beauty and experience of the dark time in the urban space, says Kati Vainio, Chairman of the Art Circle Working Group and Director of the Kankaanpää City Museum.
In recent years, Vatajankoski has worked closely with the City of Kankaanpää to develop the lighting in the area. The company is committed to maintaining and developing the energy efficiency of the street lighting network by upgrading old luminaires to LED luminaires and optimizing light use, including night dimming.
