Biowaste
According to waste management regulations, Kankaanpää is obliged to separately collect or compost biowaste if the property has at least five (5) or more apartments. Residential properties with at least 5 apartments will be transferred to biowaste transport organized by the City of Kankaanpää starting from 1 January 2024. Separately collected biowaste is delivered to Gasum Oy's biogas plant in Honkajoki and the produced biogas is utilized as biofuel in transport. The biogas plant also produces digestate, which is used as fertilizer in food production.
Those living in a detached house can purchase an empty biowaste container from the waste transport company of their choice or treat their biowaste ecologically by composting.
Packaging of biowaste
The biowaste container is easier to keep clean when the biowaste is packed in a protective bag or wrap. A large garbage bag can also be used as a cover in the waste container, so that the biowaste can be placed in the waste container loose. Liquid biowaste can be placed in the biowaste container in a cardboard box (e.g. a milk can).
Packaging biowaste while protecting the biowaste container, in order of preference:
- Paper wrapping, e.g. newspaper, paper bag, windowless envelope
- A plastic bag, for example a plastic bag from the fruit and vegetable section or a bread bag
- Biodegradable plastic bag
When composting biowaste, no plastic bags or plastic biowaste bags are used; paper bags and egg cartons can be used as compost bedding.

However, it is not recommended to place eggs or small animal cage litter, as they are not suitable for the treatment process due to their composition. |
