Pharmaceutical waste and other waste received at pharmacies

Hazardous waste accepted at pharmacies that is not accepted at the Kooninkeita sorting station or the Honkajoki wastewater treatment plant:

• medicines, expired medicines and unused medicines in a compression sheet or jar
• liquid medicine bottles
• syringes and needles, sharps waste, closed in a sealed jar or bottle, e.g. in a freezer box or in a separately available yellow sharps container
• medical plasters folded so that the adhesive surface is not touchable
• disinfectants
• Mercury thermometers, packed tightly separately. Battery-operated thermometers are electrical and electronic waste.
• iodine or bromine-containing medicines packaged separately

NOTE! Do not deliver cardboard packaging, name labels, or the accompanying instruction paper to the pharmacy.

Basic creams, nutritional supplements and natural products are not pharmacy waste, but can be put in mixed waste. At the pharmacy not accepted other waste (e.g. chemicals, hairspray bottles, blood pressure monitors or other electrical devices, batteries, etc.)
