Glass packaging
Collection and reception of glass packaging waste
In Kankaanpää, glass packaging waste will be collected separately from properties with at least five apartments in urban areas in waste transport organized by the city starting in 2024. The collected glass packaging waste will be delivered to a reception terminal designated by the packaging producer community, from where it will be delivered for processing.
Glass packaging from properties with fewer than five apartments and single-family homes is accepted at the city's sorting points, Rinki points and the Kooninkeita waste station.
The collected glass packaging waste is processed in Forssa by Uusioaines Oy (information as of April 2, 2026). The collected glass is processed into raw material for industry or construction, depending on the glass quality.
Glass packaging waste means:
- glass containers, jars and bottles that may have contained food products such as jam, jelly, juice or canned goods.
There is NO glass packaging waste
- glass containers, such as drinking glasses or glass plates. The glass mixture used in the containers is made to be durable and belongs in mixed waste
- Porcelain and glazed clay are not glass, they are made of a fine mixture of earth or stone material coated to a glossy finish.
- Stained glass and glass decorative items are often made from a glass mixture that is not suitable for processing as packaging glass; sort these into mixed waste.
- Window glass is collected separately due to the different composition of the glass mixture and the recycling and processing options. Window glass is received at the Kooninkeita sorting station both with and without frames.
Glass is always a mixture. Different glass mixtures are produced for different purposes, may have different compositions and are therefore recycled separately.
