Zoning and land use

Urban planning regulates the use and construction of areas. When preparing a plan, it is planned how, for example, residential areas, workplaces, green areas and transport will be placed in the city. Urban planning is divided into different planning levels. A more general plan guides more detailed planning.

The planning department is responsible for preparing the city's master plans and local plans, as well as other land use planning. Planning is open and interactive. Projects are announced as soon as they start, and participants are offered opportunities to influence the planning at different stages. The annual planning review provides an overall picture of pending planning projects.

The City of Kankaanpää has received the 2000 SAFA Award from the Finnish Association of Architects for its long-term and exemplary work in favor of an aesthetically high-quality and sustainable environment.
