Stormwater
Stormwater refers to rainwater or meltwater that accumulates on the ground or other similar surfaces in a densely built-up area. Stormwater is mainly channeled through a network that includes ditches, stormwater and mixed sewers, among other things.
Stormwater management
The municipality is responsible for planning stormwater flood risk management in its area, i.e. the municipality makes a preliminary assessment of the flood risks caused by stormwater floods and possibly designates significant stormwater flood risk areas (Act on Flood Risk Management 620/2010 and its supplementary Decree 659/2010). According to Act 620/2010, the assessment of stormwater flood risks and the designation of significant flood risk areas are reviewed as necessary every six years.
A preliminary assessment of stormwater flood risks has been prepared for the Kankaanpää city area in 2011, a second-round assessment review in 2018, and a third-round assessment review in 2024.
No significant stormwater flood risk areas have been designated in the Kankaanpää area.
