The Environmental Services of the City of Kankaanpää are responsible for authority tasks related to environmental protection in the Kankaanpää, Honkajoki, Jämijärvi, Karvia, Merikarvia and Siikainen areas.

The environmental protection authority is the Environment and Health Board of the City of Kankaanpää, whose main tasks include deciding on environmental and soil permits, monitoring laws and regulations, and regulations and decisions. The Environment and Health Board has delegated some of its tasks to officials.

For regular monitoring, the City of Kankaanpää has prepared an environmental protection monitoring plan and an annual monitoring program. The monitoring plan presents information on the environmental conditions of the area and activities that pose a risk of pollution, as well as the available monitoring resources and means. The monitoring program contains information on the objects to be monitored and the regular monitoring activities to be carried out on them.

The supervisory duties of the municipal environmental protection authority include, among others, supervision of activities subject to environmental permits and registration and regular periodic inspections, processing and supervision of notifications under the Environmental Protection Act, supervision of environmental protection regulations, supervision of soil permits, supervision duties under the Waste Act, supervision of dispersed waste waters, supervision duties under the Water Act, supervision duties under the Overland Traffic Act and the Water Traffic Act, and official duties prescribed for the municipality in the Nature Conservation Act.
