City surveyor Hannu Peltomaa moved to Kankaanpää for work. He thinks the city has everything he needs for a good life – he's just looking for a tennis partner.

At the time of the interview, Hannu Peltomaa had only lived in Kankaanpää for a month and a half, but had already settled in well. Although the city itself was previously unknown to him, his ties to Satakunta have always been strong. Peltomaa's father and ancestors are from Pomarku, where the family has had a farm for hundreds of years. With the move, the circle came full circle.

A new and exciting beginning

Is it because of my roots in Satakunta that the Kankaanpää lifestyle has immediately felt natural? Overall, autumn has been a rewarding new beginning for Peltomaa. I left my previous job and home in Mikkeli when it was time to turn my head towards Kankaanpää.

– I wanted to try a new job at this age, when I have about ten years of my career ahead of me. When the job description of my previous job narrowed, I started looking for a new, more versatile position. Luckily, I found one in Kankaanpää, Peltomaa smiles.

In Kankaanpää, the city surveyor's area of ​​responsibility is broad and diverse. Peltomaa is involved in many things and is responsible for, among other things, the city's land use, plots, land acquisition and surveying. Together with his team of four, he has settled into the job well. His colleagues have also given the new resident good leisure tips on what and where to do in Kankaanpää.

Passions: art, photography and dogs

Peltomaa, who is interested in art, immediately joined the Kankaanpää Artists' Association as his first job. He praises the local art scene, as few municipalities have anything like it. Living in the city center, Peltomaa can enjoy both the public works in the city center and the changing exhibitions in the gallery next to his home.

– I have also been interested in photography for a long time and thought about joining the camera club Piksel. There has been a break from photography for a couple of years, so now would be a good time to revive the hobby. When I lived in Mikkeli, I took a lot of photos of nature, landscapes and my dog ​​at the time.

When life settles down after moving, Peltomaa dreams of getting a dog again. She could go for walks with man's best friend and go on rally races or blood trail races, for example.

Peltomaa used to keep fit by playing tennis. He hasn't found a tennis partner in his new place of residence yet, but that will be resolved with time. Peltomaa thinks the people in the area are that social and approachable.

The suitable size and location are attractive

The best way to get to know a new place is by walking and jogging. Peltomaa has already had time to tour Kankaanpää a lot. He is particularly fond of the sports center and the Järventausta area, which has charming plots, well-kept yards and varied terrain.

– I believe that Kankaanpää is a perfect place to live, especially for families with children. I have noticed that it has everything I was looking for when I was living the life of a family with children.

Even in the current life situation, short distances, a maximum of two or three kilometers, make everyday life easy.

– In my opinion, Kankaanpää is just the right size, because you can find everything you need here. The central location is ideal, and there are good connections to Pori and Tampere if you want something extra, Peltomaa praises.
