The Kankaanpää summer culminates again in the Hörhiäisviikko (Hörhiäis Week) held in late August. The week of events, which runs from Tuesday 20.8 August to Sunday 25.8 August, brings people together to enjoy a diverse cultural offering, delicious food and a cheerful market atmosphere. The city, associations and other partners are responsible for organizing the week's program.
The event week will kick off on Tuesday 20.8 August with the traditional Hörhiäis fitness orienteering of the Kankaanpää Orienteering Association in the terrain of the sports centre. The week's programme also includes a peek at the museum's anniversary exhibition, the Art Circle Walk of the Art Association, the Music Institute's Little Evening Play, the museum's Old Photographs, Laavuiltä in Niinisalo, the Take Care concert in the chapel, a baseball match between the council and the press at the stadium, the children's art orienteering finals at the Kankaanpää Gallery, the MLL flea market event in the Hörhiäistelta, Diandra's church concert and, at the end of the week, the Hörhiäistanssit on the Venesjärvi beach stage, led by Antti Ahopello & Etiket.
New event: Hörhiäispolun Surinat
On Thursday evening, a new event, Hörhiäispolun Surinat, is planned. The program, aimed at all ages, will begin at 18 pm in the backyard of the sports center and will take place along the light traffic route “Hörhiäispolun” that runs from there to Paasikivenkatu. In addition to the physical program, there will be, among other things, presentation points for associations.
The Hörhiäis weekend will bring a market atmosphere to Kankaanpää market square on Friday 23.8. and Saturday 24.8. The Hörhiäis tent of LC Kankaanpää and LC Kankaanpää/Kuninkaanlähte and the market vendors will be serving on both days from afternoon until late at night. On Friday evening, there will be live gigs on the market stage and the traditional announcement of the Hörhiäis of the year. The trio Ilkka Uusitalo, Jussi Törmä and Make Tommila, Annika Eklund and Ilari Hämäläinen will take to the stage. On Friday evening, Joonas Nordman, who was elected as the first Satakunta ambassador, will also be seen on the market and stage.
Saturday's program begins with the popular Herkutellaan local food event, which is held during the day in the Hörhiäistelta. During the event, performances by young accordion players from the music institute will be heard. After the feast, it is worth moving to the market square stage to enjoy Kohtalon Kulkurien's Topi Sorsakoski Tribute. As usual, there will be a program for children in the Kankaanpääsali during Children's Saturday. The music on the market square stage will continue with Scoogie Bros, followed by a karaoke competition in the Hörhiäistelta and the finale on the market square stage. At the end of the evening, rock bands CN and Hurricane Ride will take over the stage.
