Central Archives

The City Central Archives, as the central archive of the city's agencies and institutions, permanently preserves the city's documentary cultural heritage and manages the related information and research service. The City Central Archives preserves the city's agencies and institutions' documents and information materials that need to be preserved permanently and for a long time. Documents older than 10 years from operating units are transferred to the Central Archives. The material includes the archives of boards, agencies, institutions and committees that have ceased operations.

The City Central Archives conducts investigations based on the documents it has preserved and issues certificates and copies. A fee is charged for copies according to the current rate. The materials are available to researchers in the City Hall premises. Document orders must be made in advance to the Information Management Secretary.

Local History Archives

The city's central archives also manage the Kankaanpää Homeland Archives, which receives private archive material concerning Kankaanpää. The Homeland Archives was established in 1993 in connection with the central archives of the city of Kankaanpää. The goal of the Homeland Archives is to record local private archive material and intellectual tradition, to preserve it and make it available for use. The archives contain the archives of Kankaanpää clubs, associations, cooperatives, smaller businesses, foundations, companies and private individuals. Everyone has the right to examine the documents stored in the Homeland Archives, unless they are to be kept secret under the provisions of the Public Access Act or unless the donor has set special conditions. The Homeland Archives stores the materials free of charge.
