SAFE EVERYDAY LIFE - international preparedness and continuity management collaboration project

The project aims to strengthen the operational reliability of services and the ability of local residents to act in disruption and crisis situations. Cooperation networks and their operational capabilities will be strengthened between local residents, village actors and authorities, the crisis resilience of local residents will be increased through training and information, monitoring facilities will be mapped and equipped for use in potential disruption situations, and the flow of information between authorities and village actors will be increased by establishing a village information network.
The project implementation period is September 1, 2025 – August 31, 2027. The project is implemented by the City of Kankaanpää in partnership with the Rescue Department/welfare area, the Finnish Red Cross, the Voluntary Rescue Service, the Women of National Defence, entrepreneur associations and village associations.
The project has received EU rural funding with the support of Leader Active Northern Satakunta.

Blog and announcements

30.6.2026

Village radio operations are being investigated as part of the Safe Everyday Life project.

Village radio is a local backup communication solution based on RHA68 radios and fixed radio stations. It enables communication even when mobile or telecommunications networks are unavailable, and complements local preparedness in case of disruptions.

In the Finnish Villages Association's Village Emergency Response model, village radio is one practical tool for developing village preparedness. In several locations, village radio networks are being built in cooperation with municipalities, village associations and volunteers.

The City of Kankaanpää's Arki turvassa project is also investigating the possibilities of village radio operations as part of local preparedness. In August, the people responsible for the city's preparedness will familiarize themselves with the topic under the leadership of Markku Pitko, a support person at Satakunta Village Radio, who will share practical experiences from building and operating village radio networks.

In early autumn, an open village radio evening will be organized, to which village representatives, the Finnish Rural Development Council and other interested parties will be invited. The event will present village radio operations and discuss their possibilities in Kankaanpää.

Everyday life safe village evenings coming up / book a village evening for your own village

We are organizing "Everyday Life Safe" village evenings in various parts of Kankaanpää, where we discuss the villages' preparedness, share information and build practical operating models together.

The evenings are open and interactive workshop events – the aim is to hear the villages' own views and ideas.

Would you like to host a Safe Everyday Life village evening in your village? We are now looking for villages where we would like to organize a village evening. Contact the Safe Everyday Life project coordinator and we will arrange a time together!

The Finnish Villages Association will soon open a Village Resource House / Toolbox

February 26, 2026 at 2 p.m. Presentation of the Village Resource House (Finnish Villages Association) /
The recording can also be viewed later: https://www.youtube.com/live/imvT1ZmL0rk

The Finnish Villages Association's Kylävara project also supports the City of Kankaanpää's Arki turvassa project. There's no need to reinvent the wheel, thanks to the Finnish Villages Association 🙂

Community preparedness strengthens everyday safety.

The ability of local communities to function and the mental resilience to crises are an important part of overall security. In exceptional situations – such as storms, long power outages or communication disruptions – village communities and local actors play a significant role in maintaining the smooth flow of everyday life and a sense of security.

The Village Resources toolkit developed by the Finnish Villages Association offers practical support for community preparedness.
* practical instructions and tools for the village level and cooperation with authorities.
* Households are instructed to prepare for a 72-hour supply.
* Village Reserve is a similar toolkit for local communities.

The tips and operating models in the toolkit are useful for associations, municipalities, authorities, housing companies and individual residents. Let's get to know each other and implement them according to their own available resources.
