Transport connections
Kankaanpää is located at the intersection of Järvisuomentie (highway 23) and Pohjanmaantie (main road 44). These roads connect Kankaanpää towards Pori and Rauma to southern Satakunta, to Ostrobothnia via Kauhajoki to Seinäjoki and Vaasa, and to Jyväskylä via Parkano. The most direct route to Tampere is either via Ikaalinen or Lavia.

Bus traffic
Kankaanpää bus station has several daily connections to Pori. The service to Tampere, Parkano, Jyväskylä, Vaasa and Helsinki is more limited and partly based on connecting connections. Railway station call traffic
Changes to the call service schedule from December 14, 2025
The departure time of the early evening train departing from Parkano railway station towards Tampere and Helsinki has changed to 17:04 as of December 14, 2025.
As a result, the afternoon departure time of the pick-up service from Kankaanpää has also been brought forward by 5 minutes, also starting from 14 December 2025. The new departure times at the stops are:
- Kelankaari 4 (Kunnonlähde) at 4:00 PM
- Bus station at 4:10 PM
- Niinisalo at around 4:20 p.m.
VR's schedule changes from 14 December 2025 also took place in some other train services to which call services are connected. Railway station call service instructions
There is a shuttle service between Kankaanpää and Parkano railway stations on weekdays in the morning and evening and on Sunday evenings, allowing you to board a train in Parkano for a few key train services and also to arrive at Kankaanpää from the train.
The call traffic service was launched in the fall of 2024 as a one-year trial, and based on the positive experiences and customer feedback, it was decided to establish the service as a permanent part of the service offering of the City of Kankaanpää.
The call service enables people to travel for work, shopping and leisure without their own car, especially in the direction of Tampere and Helsinki, by providing a reliable connection to the most important train services. It enables passengers to board a train from Kankaanpää in the morning, especially in the south towards Helsinki, and back in the early evening. It is also possible to travel to Kankaanpää in the morning from a train arriving from the south and back in the early evening. The primary destination train services also enable some travel to the north or to those arriving from there.
A place in the car must be reserved/ordered in advance. If there are no orders, the car will not run. The service operates on weekdays from Monday to Friday in the morning and early evening shifts and on Sundays in the early evening shifts. The service also operates during holidays. Otherwise, the service is not available on weekends or public holidays.
