According to Section 14 of the Constitution, every Finnish citizen who has reached the age of 18 has the right to vote in national elections and referendums. In addition, every Finnish citizen and foreign national permanently residing in the country who has reached the age of 18 has the right to vote in municipal elections and municipal consultative referendums.

Voting is a fundamental right of every adult citizen and one of the most important ways to influence decision-making. The following general national elections will be held in Finland:

  • parliamentary elections every four years
  • municipal elections every four years
  • Presidential election every six years
  • European Parliament elections (MEP elections) every five years
