The city of Kankaanpää has applied for a service development grant to open a low-threshold advice service point for immigrants. The board of the active Pohjois-Satakunta Association gave the green light to the project at its meeting on 23.5.2024 May 120.000. IH Kankaanpää, an immigrant advice point project is a two-year collaborative project to develop rural services. The project will launch the IH Kankaanpää service point, which will offer multilingual and in collaboration with various actors, official and advisory services to meet the needs of those who have moved to Kankaanpää and the region from abroad.
The aim is to create a low-threshold open space where different actors and authorities involved in immigration work can be reached in turn, in a pre-coordinated manner, on site or using digital services. An important goal of the IH activities is to prevent the marginalization of immigrants and challenges related to the relations between immigrants and population groups. The aim is also to support the inclusion of immigrants in society. A part-time (80%) project manager will be hired in connection with the project. -It's great that the funding was arranged. There is an increasing demand for low-threshold services, as Kankaanpää has received many new residents from abroad. Immigrants come for work, family ties, study and of course the Russian war of aggression. During January-April, 202 new residents have moved to the city, of which 105 have arrived from abroad from 14 different countries, explains the development director of the city of Kankaanpää Ulla Norrbo.
Immigrants have different needs, starting points and readiness to integrate into their new environment. The project aims to promote integration and centralize advice, for example by bringing together actors from different authorities and associations involved in immigration work under one roof.
-Partners and actors include, for example, Kela, the Employment and Economic Development Office, the Satakunta Welfare Area, the Satakunta Multicultural Association, InterProFinland and the Kankaanpää Parish. Various organizations can also provide advisory services and joint meetings at the IH service point, Norrbo states.
A competition is being held to name the immigrant information point. The working name IH Kankaanpää will be Info House or International House.
