This winter, it is possible that electricity production and imports will not be enough to cover consumption, resulting in an electricity shortage. In this case, consumption will have to be temporarily limited by means of short, rotating and planned power outages. The city of Kankaanpää has prepared for the situation by listing its critical targets and agreeing on possible measures in cooperation with Vatajankoski Sähköverkko Oy.
Vatajankoski Sähköverkko Oy notifies its customers of planned power outages in advance by text message and also on Vatajankoski Sähköverkko Oy's website and Vatajankoski's Facebook page. The city relies on the information it receives from Vatajankoski in its communications and shares it further through its own channels. If a power outage occurs unexpectedly or lasts longer, the city's communication channels are the notice boards next to the front doors of the city hall and the Honkajoki office building.

Water supply
Tap water will normally be available during a short power outage of 1-2 hours. However, in some sparsely populated areas north of the center of Kankaanpää, there may be a significant drop in pressure. The power outage will not affect the quality of tap water and tap water is safe to drink even during a power outage. However, the amount of water going into the sewer should be limited. Pumps are needed to transfer wastewater in the sewer network, and not all pumping stations can be excluded from power outages. If the property has its own sewage pumping station, continued water use may cause the sewer to flood on the property in question.

Sports services
The sports center is closed during the power outage. If the power outage occurs unexpectedly, the facilities will be emptied of customers. When the power outage ends, the facilities will reopen in about an hour.
Library services
During the power outage, Kankaanpää libraries are closed. Operations will continue as normal after the power outage.
Museum services
The City Museum is closed during the power outage. Museum visitors will be informed of power outages on site as necessary. During the power outage, customers will be directed away from the exhibition spaces and operations will continue as normal after the power outage.
Youth facilities
The youth facilities are closed during power outages and young people will not be allowed inside. If there is an unannounced power outage, young people will be directed out of the facilities. After the outage, activities will continue as normal.
Outreach youth work
Outreach youth work operates normally during power outages. During power outages, meetings can be postponed if the client so wishes or their case requires the use of electronic services. Education
Parents and guardians as well as pupils and students will be informed in advance of a power outage that is known in advance, but it is also possible that a power outage will occur without prior warning. Therefore, it is important that children and young people have enough reflectors when walking in the morning. You can also pack a flashlight in your backpack to protect yourself on a possible dark trip to school.
Children and young people should feel safe even during a power outage. For this reason, access to buildings, sufficient lighting, and food preparation and distribution have been ensured even in case of disruptions. Students who use laptops in education should prepare by regularly charging the battery at home or in the afternoon at school and avoid unnecessary use in the evening.
In all situations, information to homes will be provided through the information channels used in early childhood education units and through Wilma in schools. In the event of a nationwide power outage, early childhood education and school operations will continue to the extent possible and information about the operations will be provided separately.
