Participatory budgeting is an operating model in which local residents are given the opportunity to influence the choice of where budget appropriations are used.
- The budget allocation for participatory budgeting in Kankaanpää in 2025 is 20.000 euros. The use or uses of the budget can be planned and decided by the residents. A total of 114 proposals were received in the proposal phase organized in January, of which the innovation working group selected 22 proposals for the voting phase.
- The funds will be used to implement the 1–2 proposals that receive the most votes.
- Vote is available to all residents of the city of Kankaanpää who are at least 12 years old this year (born in 2013 or earlier).

- Mobile sales stalls will be purchased for Kankaanpää Market Square (20.000 euros)

- Outdoor ping-pong tables will be purchased for the courtyards of the city center and Honkajoki youth centers (10.000 euros)

- Support for the purchase of an irrigation system for the Pesämäki motocross track and the construction of a small motocross training area for young people (20.000 euros)
- The equipment at the Honkala gym will be renovated (20.000 euros)
*Participatory budgeting was introduced in Kankaanpää last year (allocation 50.000 euros). For cost-saving reasons, this year's allocation (20.000 euros) is smaller than last year.

Participatory budgeting funds will be used to renovate a swimming area in Honkajoki
The vote between the two top proposals was close. The proposal to renovate a swimming area in Honkajoki received 385 votes. and it narrowly defeated the proposal to establish a recreation area in the center of Kankaanpää (364 votes). The third most supported proposal was the proposal to increase the asphalting of streets in the center area (286 votes).
There were 22 proposals in the voting phase. In the vote, the residents of the municipality were allowed to name the three best proposals in order of preference. When the votes were counted, the proposal named in 1st place received five (5) points, the one named in 2nd place received three (3) points, and the one named in 3rd place received one (1) point.
472 people participated in the vote. The right to vote was for residents over 12 years of age (born in 2012 or earlier). The most active participants were those aged 26–55 (63,8% of voters). The share of those over 55 years of age was 23,6% and the share of those aged 12–25 was 12,6%.
Implementation: technical operations and sports services
The swimming beach on Honkajoki is planned to be opened in the summer season of 2025.
