In the participatory budgeting vote, one proposal stood out clearly above the others. The goal is to use the allocated funds to organize more cultural events in Kankaanpää (619 points).

The competition for the silver and bronze medals was tighter. The proposal for the purchase of indoor playground equipment and children's sports days reached 450 points, while the proposal for the renovation of the equipment in the Riviera area and increasing the amenity of the area received 15 points less (435 points).

In the vote, the residents of the municipality were able to name the three best proposals in order of preference. When the votes were counted, the proposal named in 1st place received five (5) points, the one named in 2nd place received three (3) points, and the one named in 3rd place received one (1) point.

A total of 678 people participated in the voting phase (472 people last year). 59 votes (8,7%) were rejected. The vote was rejected if the voter had selected more than the three best suggestions, the voter's place of residence was not Kankaanpää, or the name or year of birth was incompletely stated.

The voting period ended on 31 March 2025. The right to vote was open to residents over the age of 12 (born in 2013 or earlier). The most active participants were those aged 30–49 (47,8% of voters). The share of those over the age of 50 was 30,1% and the share of those under the age of 30 was 22,1%.

This year's budget is 20.000 euros.

Participatory budgeting is a method of working in which city residents are involved in the discussion, planning and decision-making regarding shared tax resources. First, ideas are proposed and then a vote is taken. The participatory budgeting experiment in Kankaanpää was now carried out for the second time.

During the proposal phase, 114 proposals were received from residents, from which the city's Innovation Working Group selected 22 proposals that would delight residents of different ages for the voting phase.

Development Director of the City of Kankaanpää Ulla Norrbo would like to thank everyone who submitted suggestions and participated in the vote.

"This year, the participatory budgeting allocation in Kankaanpää is 20.000 euros. According to the result of the vote, more cultural events will be organized with that money, for example concerts and an open-air film event," Norrbo explains.
