A new guide to preparing for disruptions and crisis situations aimed at the entire population has been published on Suomi.fi.

The Ministry of the Interior has implemented an online guide in collaboration with the Digital and Population Data Agency and a wide cooperation network. The guide brings together preparedness instructions in one place. The Suomi.fin guide on preparing for disruptions and crisis situations deals with situations that would have a broad impact on society and communities.

Situations that require advance preparation include, for example, long power, water and telecommunications outages, extreme weather events and major accidents, and longer-lasting crises, such as a pandemic or military conflict. In addition to instructions, the guide contains information on hybrid and informational influence, maintaining one's own ability to function and cope in crisis situations, and helping others.

Preparedness means preparing in advance for various disturbances, crises and exceptional circumstances. That is why Suomi.fi's preparedness guide is also intended to be read in advance when there are no disturbances in society. Your own preparedness and actions affect how well people and communities cope.

Everyone's starting point for preparedness is different, which is why it would be good to see preparedness as a selection of different methods. The basis of preparedness is home supplies, but it is also the knowledge and skills to act when something exceptional happens. Everyone should prepare in some way according to their own needs, possibilities and abilities.

– The thought of preparing for crises may arouse anxiety and fear. However, mentally reviewing the risks and threats also strengthens the resources of the individual and the community. It is good to remember that unlikely things can happen, but being prepared does not make the threats more likely to materialize. Finland is working together to prevent the threats from materializing through good preparedness, says Eriikka Koistinen, Director of Communications at the Ministry of the Interior.
