Preparedness means preparing in advance for various disturbances, accidents and crisis situations. The goal is to ensure that society and individuals continue to function as smoothly as possible. Everyone's own preparedness and actions affect how well we cope.
The Ministry of the Interior has published a Preparedness Guide on the suomi.fi service:
Guide to preparing for disruptions and crisis situations
The guide provides instructions on how to prepare for various situations in advance and how to act during them. Situations that require preparation include, for example:
- power and water outages
- disruptions in the operation of the internet or banking services
- natural phenomena and major disasters, such as a storm or wildfire
- longer-lasting crises, such as a pandemic or military conflict.
In every household and company, it is a good idea to think in advance about, for example:
- What kinds of dangerous situations can you encounter in your own environment and how can you prevent them?
- How to leave your home or workplace in the event of a fire or other dangerous situation?
- Can you provide first aid if necessary?
- How can you heat your home during a long power outage?
- Is it okay to prepare for a longer water outage?

The Kankaanpää City Management Group also acts as a contingency management group for disturbances and exceptional situations, which is supplemented as necessary.
