Tools to support a child or young person's learning
The project, funded by the Finnish National Board of Education, began in early 2021 and ended in late 2022. The website has been created in collaboration with education and social services experts.
The project gathered information and tools on the Learning Support website, which can be used by school teaching and student welfare staff, guardians and the child or young person's other network to consider support needs and support methods:
- Identifying the need for support The tool can be used to initially map the support needs of a child or young person.
- Support portfolio contains practical methods and tips to support learning.
- Nepsy consultation (neuropsychiatric features) includes a description of the solution-focused Nepsy consultation modeled in the project for preschool and primary education.
- Nepsy path (neuropsychiatric features) includes a description of the ADHD pathway for school-aged children and adolescents.
The key objectives of the Kankaanpää sub-project and their implementation
You can read more about the implementation of the project's goals here. From the final report of the Learning Support and Inclusion project (PDF)Below is a summary of the project's main objectives and their implementation.
Assessment of the achievement of project objectives
Objective 1: The majority of the work was done through practical consultation visits
- Most of the work was done through consultation visits to preschool and elementary school groups.
- The groups were visited on average three days a week.
Objective 2: Strengthening neuropsychiatric competence, solution-focused approaches and early support in pre-school and primary education
- After being contacted about the project, efforts were made to arrange a visit to the teaching group as quickly as possible.
- Based on the preschool feedback survey, the solution-focused consulting approach was successful and the groups grew in courage to try new methods in the long term.
- At the end of the first project period and the beginning of the second project period, the groups met systematically together according to an agreed schedule.
- At the end of the spring term of the second project period, the consultation took place by invitation. After this, preschool education was actively contacted and invited to visit for consultations.
- A solution-focused approach is rooted in preschool education. This is probably influenced by the fact that preschool education's working method is already teamwork and multi-professional in nature.
Goal 3: Strengthening neuropsychiatric competence, solution-focused approaches and early support in basic education
- After being contacted, a visit to the teaching group was quickly arranged for the project.
- During the first project period, schools were visited systematically according to an agreed schedule.
- In the second project period, consultation was by invitation. After this, visits to basic education groups decreased.
- On the other hand, closer and longer-lasting cooperation was established with some groups.
Objective 4: Compilation of information packages and forms of support related to Nepsy traits and learning difficulties on the Learning Support website
- The website assembly went according to plan.
- The material packages became more extensive than originally planned.
- The website has received good feedback, especially from nepsy professionals and guardians of nepsy children.
Goal 5: Creation and implementation of an ADHD pathway in education-health and social services cooperation
- The creation of a path in education-health and social services cooperation went according to plan.
- The implementation of the path is still in the process of finding its direction. You can read more about the path in the ADHD path section.
Objective 6: Create, test and upload the Nepsy consultation model to the Learning Support website
- The project successfully modeled and tested nepsy consultation. You can read more about this in the section Nepsy consultation (neuropsychiatric features).
- Information about modeling and experiences was passed on to a wider network, for example in connection with consulting. The job description of a neuropsychologist in Turku
Objective 7: Creating a consultation model for preschool special education and exporting it to the Learning Support website
- A special education consultation model was created for preschool education, which can be seen in the final report of the project. The model was created in collaboration with special education teachers in early childhood education.
- Kankaanpää preschool operates according to the principles of modeling.
- The modeling was not exported to the website, but it can be seen in the final project report.
Objective 8: Creating a consultation model for special education in basic education and exporting it to the Learning Support website
- The project began cooperation with basic education actors to create a consultation model.
- The consultation model for basic education was not completed during the project.
Goal 6: Increasing multidisciplinary collaboration, creating networks locally and regionally, and increasing broader awareness of NEPSY
- The project involved collaboration with teachers, counselors, and student welfare staff.
- Good practices were widely exchanged in the Satakunta region.
- There was cooperation at both local and regional levels at the education-health and social services interface. Here are some highlights:
- Centa Hospital Consultative hospital teaching project
- Nepsy network organized by Pori Basic Security
- Operators in various sectors of the North Satakunta Basic Services Joint Municipal Authority
- Child protection Support from the right place, i.e. TOP project
- Educational cooperation was carried out with Satakunta University of Applied Sciences DigiNepsy project with.
- More information about other networks and partners can be found in the final project report.
