Community college activities began in Kankaanpää as early as 1948 as one of the first rural colleges. Today, adult education activities are carried out by Petäjä-opisto, which is a regional adult education centre in the municipalities of Kankaanpää, Karvia, Kihniö, Parkano, Hämeenkyrö and Pomarkku. The education centre is an educational institution receiving state aid for liberal education and is part of the SASKY education consortium.
Petäjä-opisto adult education centre organizes education that aims to promote students' independent development and study skills, prepare them for lifelong learning and internationalization, and develop civic skills while taking into account the principles of sustainable development. The focus of the education is on arts and crafts, health-promoting subjects, information technology, and social studies.
