Preschool education
Preschool education is a systematic and goal-oriented educational and teaching activity. Its central task is to promote the child's growth, development and learning conditions. The activities are planned from a child-centered perspective, and its task is to strengthen the child's positive self-image and perception of themselves as a learner.
Preschool education is based on the pre-school curriculum principles drawn up by the Finnish National Board of Education on 22 December 2014. In Kankaanpää, the following is used to support the planning of pre-school education: Kankaanpää City Preschool Curriculum.
Organizing preschool education
In Kankaanpää, preschool education is organized both under the supervision of the City of Kankaanpää's Educational Services and under the supervision of private service providers in kindergarten groups. The number of preschool education units is reviewed annually to meet needs.
In the Honkajoki district, preschool education is implemented under the supervision of basic education at Puukoulu. In addition to preschool education, the necessary care is organized at Puukoulu as a club activity. It is also possible to apply for an early childhood education place that complements preschool education at Honko Daycare.
Children who have reached the age of 6 are entitled to preschool education. In addition, 7-year-olds whose school start date has been postponed by a year and 5-year-olds who are subject to extended compulsory education are also entitled to preschool education. It is the guardian's responsibility to ensure that the child participates in preschool education or other activities that achieve the goals of preschool education.
The scope of free pre-school education is 700 hours per year. The daily pre-school education time is four hours. Pre-school education generally follows the school academic year, with pre-school education ending on the last weekday in May (Monday – Friday).
Early childhood education needed in addition to preschool education
In addition to preschool education, there is a fee for early childhood education. The customer fee for a child in preschool education is valid during the preschool education period (school year). There is no free preschool education during the preschool summer vacation period, so early childhood education is billed based on actual hours.
From August 1, 2026, the number of hours per month for early childhood education required in addition to pre-school education will be 0 – 60 hours, 61 – 85 hours, and 86 hours and over.
Registering for preschool education
Enrollment in preschool only applies to children for whom preschool is not provided at the child's current early childhood education location or who are not yet in any early childhood education unit. Enrollment takes place through electronic transactions. Registration in Honkajoki Wilma system .
