A video artwork titled “Everything is fine right now” will be on display at the elderly care unit of Mäntykalliokodi in Kankaanpää from March to April. The artwork was created by visual artist Henrietta Lehtonen. Right now everything is fine. –the video piece brings a summery rural idyll to the walls of a nursing home for the elderly. A cat stares out the window, cows ruminate, and fluffy birds collect nectar. Long shots and a steady camera create a leisurely and safe atmosphere.
The video work can be viewed on the 1st floor of Mäntykalliokoti, in the TV lobby of the Honka department. There is a notebook in which viewers can write down their thoughts and feelings. The work is freely accessible to staff, residents, relatives and anyone who comes to the building. Any requests to visit Mäntykalliokoti in Kankaanpää can be forwarded by Tuuli Penttinen-Lampisuo, Taimi project & LiikKUVAT service / Kallo Works, 050 535 8916, [email protected]
Art as part of elderly care
The work is presented at Mäntykalliokodi at the invitation of the TAIMI project and in response to the interests of the residents. The TAIMI project tests and develops target group-oriented ways of bringing art into elderly care. Last year, service design workshops were held at Mäntykalliokodi, where the service home's clients talked about, among other things, their warm relationship with the forest and the animals on small farms.
Henrietta Lehtonen (b. 1965) is a visual artist and architect from Tampere who made her debut at the Youth Exhibition at the Helsinki Art Hall over thirty years ago. Since then, her works have been exhibited both domestically and internationally and have been acquired for several collections. In 1995, Lehtonen's video work Child was exhibited at the Venice Biennale. In 2001 he participated in the Istanbul Biennale and in 2011 his video installation The windows was on display at the Trondheim Art Museum.
Since 2010, Lehtonen has worked as a curator at the LiikKUVAT service. The idea behind LiikKUVAT is to offer moving image art to people whose own mobility is limited. Right now everything is fine. The video work was created out of Lehtonen's desire to fulfill the artistic aspirations of care facilities. The work premiered in 2015 at Pitkäniemi Psychiatric Hospital in Nokia, where it has been exhibited several times in different departments.
